This summer yukata comes in white cotton with a wave, or seigaiha, print in gray, cut short to the thigh for warm weather. The pattern is a classic in Japanese textile design, made up of layered, repeating arcs that read as calm rather than busy, even spread across the whole robe front to back.
It suits anyone who wants a lightweight robe built specifically for heat, not a heavier robe pressed into summer service out of necessity. The cotton is thin and breathable, and the short thigh length keeps it from feeling like too much fabric on a hot evening at home. The gray print also keeps it easy to wear without much thought about what else you have on, since it is understated enough to go with anything already in the closet.
Yukata are traditionally worn loose and belted at Japanese summer festivals, and this one works just as well at home for the same reason: it is cool, easy to move in, and quick to put on. Wear it open over shorts, or belted for a proper robe after a shower on a warm night, when anything heavier would feel like too much. It also folds down small enough to pack for a trip without taking up much space in a bag or a suitcase, which matters when everything else is already full.
