    Kimonos & Sizing

What is the difference between a kimono and a yukata?

A yukata is the light, casual cousin of the kimono: usually cotton, unlined, and worn in summer, at festivals and after a bath. "Kimono" is the wider family, from the formal silk robe to the everyday kimono robe you wear at home. Browse our Yukata and Japanese Kimono collections to compare them.

How do I choose my size?

Each product page lists the sizes available for that style. Most pieces come in S to XL or in one free size, and several kimono robes run up to 6XL. Kimono robes wrap at the front and are cut loose, so if you sit between two sizes, the larger one gives the relaxed fit most people want.

Still unsure? Email us your height and your usual size at info@zenkimono.com and we will tell you which one to pick.

Do you have kimonos for men?

Yes. Our Male Kimono collection has haori jackets, yukata and kimono robes cut for men, and most one-size robes work for everyone. Women's styles live in Kimonos for Women.

How do I wear a kimono the right way?

Wrap the left side over the right, as you see it on yourself. From the front, the collar then forms a small letter "y". Tie the belt at the waist, with the knot slightly to one side.

Note: in Japan, right over left is reserved for dressing the deceased, so always keep it left over right.

How do I wash and care for my kimono?

Follow the care label on your piece first. For satin and silk-touch fabrics, wash cold on a gentle cycle or by hand, skip the tumble dryer and hang it to dry away from direct sun. Cotton yukata usually take a cold machine wash, check the label first. If it needs ironing, use a low setting on the reverse side.

    Orders & Purchases

Can I change or cancel my order?

Yes, within 2 hours of placing it. Email info@zenkimono.com with your order number and what you want to change (address, size or color). After 2 hours your order may already be processing or on its way, so we cannot guarantee a change.

Where can I check my order status?

As soon as your order ships, you receive an email with a tracking number. Enter it on our Track Order page to follow the delivery. The first scan can take 5 to 7 working days to appear, so do not worry if the page is empty at first.

    Will my items ship together?

If your order has several items, they may travel in separate parcels so that nothing waits for the rest. You get a tracking number for each parcel.

What if I entered the wrong address?

Email info@zenkimono.com straight away with your order number and the correct address; within 2 hours we can still change it. If a parcel comes back to us because the address was wrong or it was not collected, we contact you to arrange a new delivery, and a re-shipping fee may apply.

What if there is a problem with my order?

Wrong item, missing item or anything else that looks off: email info@zenkimono.com with your order number, a short description and a photo if you have one. We answer within 24 hours, Monday to Friday, and sort it out quickly.

    Shipping & Delivery

    How long does delivery take?

We prepare your order in 1 to 3 business days (orders placed after 4 PM ET or over the weekend start the next business day). Delivery then takes:

    • United States: 5 to 10 business days
    • Europe: 7 to 14 business days
    • Rest of the world: 10 to 20 business days

Customs checks or local postal delays can add a few days. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.

    Is shipping free?

Yes. Standard shipping is free on every order, worldwide, with no minimum. An express upgrade is offered at checkout for some destinations; its fee is shown before you pay and is non-refundable.

Which countries do you ship to?

We ship to 90 countries, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan and most of Europe. If your country appears in the list at checkout, we deliver there.

Do I have to pay customs or import duties?

International orders may be subject to customs fees or import taxes set by your country. These charges are not included in our prices or shipping and are paid by the customer on delivery.

What if my package is lost or delayed?

If your parcel is lost in transit or arrives damaged, email info@zenkimono.com within 7 days of the delivery date with your order number and photos. We investigate with the carrier and send a replacement or a refund at no cost to you.

    Returns & Exchanges

    What is your return policy?

You have 30 days from delivery to return an item that is unworn, with its tags attached and in the original packaging. Email info@zenkimono.com first with your order number, the item and a photo; we then send you a return authorization and a printable return label ($7.95 per item, deducted from your refund). Read the full Refund Policy.

Can I exchange for another size, color or style?

Yes. Follow the return steps above and tell us which size, color or style you want instead. We ship the new piece once your return is approved, subject to stock.

Tip: if you sit between two sizes, choose the larger one for the relaxed kimono fit.

What happens if my item arrives damaged or faulty?

Damaged in transit: email info@zenkimono.com within 7 days of delivery with photos of the parcel and the item. Faulty item: email us within 30 days of delivery with a photo. In both cases we send a replacement or a full refund, and the return costs you nothing.

When will I receive my refund?

Once we receive and approve your return, we refund your original payment method within 10 days. The return label and a small non-refundable payment processing fee are deducted, unless the item was faulty or we made the mistake. Your bank may take a few extra days to show the credit.
